Applicant Information

If you are an ASMS member and you are applying for job in Government (in North America) in the next six months, you are eligible to apply for selection as a presenter in the Emerging Talent: Government series!

Application deadline is April 28, 2021. Go to section below 'Application & Selection Process' for details and link to online application.

The webinar presentations will be May 24-27, 2021. The week will conclude with a special meeting on May 28 with program organizers. This will be an opportunity for all interested in applying for a government job to chat with organizers in Zoom meeting break-out rooms.

Applicant Eligibility

  • Must be current (2021) ASMS member.
  • Member must be applying for a government (federal agency, nat'l lab, state lab, etc) in North America within the next eight months. International applicants (based outside of North America) are welcome as long as applicant is applying for the type of government position described in North America.
  • If selected as presenter for Government program, applicant may not apply for future programs (Industry, Academia)

Application & Selection Process

The following application and judging elements are for the Emerging Talent: Government program.

Applicant will provide (for the Government program):

  • Completion of this online form with basic contact and status information
  • Upload of CV (inclusive of publication record) to this online form
  • Upload of 3-5 min video (mp4) research pitch / vision for government scientist role to this online form OR upload of 1-page statement (pdf) on applicant's research goals and vision for government scientist role to this online form
  • Letter of recommendation from mentor(s) that discuss applicant's suitability to apply for government scientist positions. One letter required, second letter optional. Letters may be uploaded to this form (by applicant) or sent to directly from mentor(s.)

Applications will be judged based on these criteria: evidence of research and/or suitability for government scientist position (CV and video or statement of research vision in government scientist position and letter(s) of recommendation.
