JASMS Call for Papers: Special Issue

JS 0925 Mass Spectrom-1080x1080-px

Submission Deadline: June 30, 2026

JASMS is welcoming submissions for an upcoming Special Issue on Mass Spectrometry in Microbial Sciences to coincide with the 2026 ASMS Winter Conference of the same theme.

A wide range of methods and applications of mass spectrometry to the microbial sciences are encouraged with primary focus areas in:

  • Mass spectrometry methods applied to the study of microbial biotechnology
  • Approaches and findings from the study of host-pathogen, host-microbiome and microbiome-pathogens interactions
  • Environmental microbiology
  • Microbial communication
  • New computational methods for the analysis of microbial mass spectrometry data
  • Emerging technologies to analyze microbes and microbial communities

About the 2027 Conference: Recent Advances in Lipids and Lipidomics by MS

Mass spectrometry (MS) is an integral tool in the identification and quantification of lipids. Recent advances in MS-based technologies and methods have enabled improvements in throughput, quantitation, structural elucidation, and limits of detection. For example, innovations in ion mobility and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) are allowing deeper dives into the cellular lipidome. These experiments are performed in a wide variety of fashions, including direct infusion, coupled to chromatography, and via imaging mass spectrometry. Improvements in informatics and multi-omics data integration are enabling more complete and holistic views of structures and metabolism. The scale and scope of these analyses via mass spectrometry are continually revealing new insights into disease pathology, environmental hazards, in the clinic, and in pharmaceutical development. Research in lipids broadly spans fields of instrumentation, informatics, GC-MS, LC-MS, ion mobility, imaging mass spectrometry, fundamental gas-phase ion chemistry, MS/MS, molecular pathology, environmental MS, clinical MS, and drug pharmacology.

The conference will bring together experts from these diverse subfields to discuss state-of-the-art advances in instrumentation, methods, and applications. The conference will give attendees the opportunity to interact with investigators from a plethora of different research areas. It is our hope that this cross-pollination will help drive inspiration and collaboration in the field. Significant emphasis will be placed on innovations in technology and methods, but exciting applications of lipid and lipidomics research will also be discussed.
