JASMS Cover Art Contest

Cover Art Contest for the Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry

JASMS is soliciting artwork to serve as the standing cover art for the journal. The selected artwork(s) will appear as the journal cover for regular issues in which no author-submitted cover artwork is received or selected. The artwork should reflect the journal’s scope of mass spectrometry fundamentals, computational work or software development for mass spectrometry, and applications of mass spectrometry in fields ranging from chemical, biological, health, environmental, physical, geological, and forensic sciences. The winning cover art submission(s) will be highlighted at ASMS 2025 in Baltimore, MD.

More About the Contest

Cover art submissions must reflect the scope of JASMS, including fundamentals and applications of mass spectrometry. Artwork containing photographs of individuals or offensive/inappropriate content will not be considered. Participants should be ASMS members.

How-To Submit

Submissions should be sent to eic@jasms.acs.org with the subject line “Cover Art Contest.” The submission should include

  • Completed artwork in a .jpg or .tif format sized to 8.19" w  x 7.81" h (2457 px x 2343 px) with no bleed. If you are able to include bleed, please do so with a .125” be added to each side. The minimum resolution is 300 dpi.
  • Artwork should be accompanied by a 2-3 sentence description of the artist’s inspiration for the work, which will appear with the artist’s name in the “About the Cover” caption of the issue.
  • The use of any AI-generated content within the artwork must be disclosed by including the name of the AI model, the prompt, and the date of generation within the caption.

Deadline is Sept. 15

Submissions will be collected until September 15, 2024. The submitted artwork will be evaluated by the ASMS Publications Committee and the Editors of JASMS. After the first competition, a decision will be made by JASMS and ASMS whether to hold this contest regularly.
