What is Asilomar Like?

The campus-style setting of Asilomar offers an ideal environment for informal meetings and recreational activities. Asilomar, “the refuge by the sea,” is located at the tip of the Monterey Peninsula overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It occupies 105 acres of secluded forest and dunes that are preserved by the California State Park System as a nature center and historic site.

The accommodations at Asilomar are charming and comfortable; rooms do have wifi internet access, but do not have televisions or telephones. Guest room rates at Asilomar include three meals per day and ALL taxes.

Guest Room Types and Fees

  • Single Occupancy (one person, one room). Rate includes three meals per day and ALL taxes
    $265.35 per night ($1,061.40 for the full conference)
  • Roommate Request - Double Occupancy* (shared room with two beds). Rate includes three meals per day and ALL taxes.
    $178.81 per night, per person ($715.24 per person for the full conference)
  • Participant Plus Guest - Double Occupancy (shared room with one king bed). Rate includes three meals per day and ALL taxes
    $265.35 for participant per night and $92.27 for guest per night
*Roommates. If you opt to have a Roommate Request, you will be prompted to indicate your gender on the Guest Information page of housing reservation process. IF you have a roommate preference (a colleague or friend who is also attending the meeting), please indicate their full name in the Additional Information section of the housing reservation process.

Offsite Participants (if you are not staying at Asilomar)

All conference attendees who opt to stay offsite and not reserve a guest room at Asilomar will pay a $200 offsite fee. This fee must be paid through online conference registration. The fee covers a usage fee assessed by the facility as well as lunch tickets for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. If you have already registered for the conference and need to pay your offsite fee, you may do so by going to Online Conference Registration and click to 'Register for this event', then select 'Not registering for conference with this order' on the first page. On the second page you will have the option to select and pay for the offsite fee as well as banquet tickets. 

Participant Guests

Guests are welcome to accompany conference attendees.  

If you are lodging onsite at Asilomar, you may request and pay for lodging for your guest as well using the Participant Plus Guest - Double Occupancy option in Asilomar Online Housing.  Guests staying at Asilomar will receive three meals per day included with their lodging fee.  Guests staying at Asilomar may purchase a ticket to attend the Monday evening banquet for $20.

If your guest will stay with you offsite, you may purchase a ticket for your guest to attend the Monday evening banquet for $30 in Online Conference Registration.


Getting to Asilomar

All conference sessions take place on the Asilomar grounds. Lodging (guest room + meals) are also available at Asilomar and may be reserved through conference registration.

Driving to Asilomar.
If you drive to Asilomar from San Francisco or San Jose, make your way to California Highway 1 and go south. After you pass the Monterey exits, take the second Pacific Grove exit (Route 68 West). Travel west on Route 68 for approximately 10 minutes (watch for where Route 68 West turns left). Near the bottom of the hill, turn right on Asilomar Blvd. The main entrance to Asilomar is at the intersection of Asilomar Blvd and Sinex.

Air Travel to Asilomar.
Asilomar is approximately 120 miles from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and 65 miles from San Jose International Airport (SJC).  From these airports to Asilomar you may choose to rent a car or take the Monterey Airbus shuttle.  From SFO to Asilomar the fee is $65 one-way and from SJC the fee is $55 one-way.  Save $5 per trip if you book online at www.montereyairbus.com

You may also fly into the Monterey Airport.  Taxis are available at the Monterey Airport and fare is approximately $30 to Asilomar.
