This group is concerned with the rapidly growing field of imaging mass spectrometry. Topics of interest include applications (including protein and peptide biomarkers, lipidomics, pharmaceutical and ADME analyses), methodology development (such as novel ionization sources, in situ chemistry, matrix application methodology), and instrumental developments (faster lasers, innovative optics to maximize resolution, improved motorized stages for better precision, etc.)
Imaging MS was represented well at ASMS 2011 with 3 oral sessions, 7 poster sessions and in total around 125 presentations. In addition a very successful workshop was held titled 'Towards Quantitative Imaging' using a novel format, which was extremely well received. Some very lively discussion took place and some interesting conclusions formed, a detailed report of the workshop can be found here.
