The Fundamentals Interest Group, unlike most of the other ASMS Special Interest Groups, is an un-focused group. Its general area involves the chemistry and physics behind how ions are formed, how they fragment, and how they react with other species, both in the gas phase and under the various conditions found in mass spectrometers. This includes (but is not limited to) ion-molecule chemistry, ionization, activation, and dissociation processes, thermochemistry and structures of ions, photonic processes, and computational chemistry.
