Member-at-Large Digital Communications

This position was formerly Member at Large for Measurements and Standards.  The name has been changed to reflect the new focus and responsibilities of this position.

 

David R. Goodlett, B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry (Auburn University with Professors John Aull and Frank Bartol); and Ph.D. in Biochemistry (North Carolina State University with Professors Richard van Breemen and Frank Armstrong); Postdoctoral Fellow (Battelle Memorial Institute with Richard Smith).  Dr. Goodlett is currently Professor in Medicinal Chemistry and Director of the School of Pharmacy Mass Spectrometry Center at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.

Dr. Goodlett’s research interests include the use of mass spectrometry to better understand structure function relationships in biological molecules, specifically proteins and lipids.  In particular, his research efforts have emphasized the application of electrospray ionization for study of proteome complexity, multi-protein complexes, lipid A heterogeneity and informatics in support of these topics.  The work of he and his colleagues has resulted in over 100 peer-reviewed publications and more than 100 worldwide lectures.

Dr. Goodlett has been a member of ASMS since 1990 and has served on several committees.  He has participated as an ad hoc reviewer for NIH grant review panels including NCRR, NIAID, NCI and NIDDK, and currently is a permanent member of the Enabling Bioanalytical and Biophysical Technologies panel.  He is a visiting Professor at Edinburgh University and is a member of the ACS and Sigma Xi, a scientific research society.  He is an Editor at Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, is currently on the Editorial Board of Proteomics and previously served on the Editorial board of Journal of Chromatography.  He is also a frequent reviewer for JASMS, Analytical Chemistry, Journal of Proteome Research and Proteomics.

 

Mark Sanders, B.S. in Chemistry (Nottingham University, England); Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry (Nottingham University, England with Professor Leslie Crombie); Postdoctoral Fellow (University of California, Berkeley with Professor John E. Casida).  Dr. Sanders is currently the Director of the Life Sciences Mass Spectrometry Applications Laboratories at Thermo Scientific in Somerset, New Jersey and San Jose, California.  

Prior to joining Thermo Scientific in Jan 2008, Dr. Sanders was a Senior Principal Scientist and Leader of the Discovery Analytical Sciences Mass Spec Group at Bristol-Myers Squibb in Princeton, NJ.  During his 11 year tenure he investigated and developed new applications of mass spectrometry based technologies to enhance the drug discovery efforts at Bristol-Myers Squibb.  Most recently, Dr. Sanders’ research efforts have focused on developing methodologies and data processing techniques for metabolomics and drug metabolism studies. His work has resulted in over 20 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.

Dr. Sanders has been a member of ASMS since 1992.  He has organized and chaired sessions on the application of mass spectrometry at ASMS Conferences and has served as an active member of the Pharmaceutical, LC/MS, Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics and Metabolomics Interest Groups.  Dr. Sanders is also a member of the ACS and has served on the Board of Directors of the Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease/Congenital Hepatic Fibrosis Alliance, a patient advocacy group. 


Duties of the Member at Large for Digital Communications
1. Chairs the Digital Communications Committee
2. Overseas content, functionality, and design of the ASMS web site and other ASMS digital communications.
